AI Trading Bot Scams: 7 Red Flags and How to Check

Published by AutoCoin, led by founder James Warwick

Short answer. Automated trading software is a scam when it promises fixed returns, shows no record anyone can verify, or asks you to move money to the vendor instead of keeping it in your own account. Check the seven red flags below before you pay or connect anything, and walk away if even one fails.

Last updated: 19 October 2026.

The label "AI" tells you nothing. What separates real software from a trap is structure: who holds the money, what the record shows, and how easily you can leave. Run this checklist on any product, including ours. For the wider picture, read our guide to the Super-intelligent trading software category and how this software actually works.

Red flag 1: Why are fixed or promised returns a red flag?

Trading outcomes vary by market, by strategy and by the day you start, so nobody can honestly promise a fixed number. A product that puts a set percentage, steady monthly income or "no losing months" in the headline is selling a story, and its terms page may carry a disclaimer that contradicts the ad.

What it looks like: "Earn a set percentage every day." "Steady monthly income." "No losing months." A number in the headline before you have clicked anything.

How to check: Trading outcomes vary by market, by strategy and by the day you start. Read the terms page and look for a disclaimer that contradicts the ad. Ask the seller where the number comes from. A real answer points to a public record. A scam answer points to a screenshot.

Red flag 2: Why is a track record you cannot verify a red flag?

The seller controls every screenshot, win-rate claim, backtest chart, testimonial and "verified" badge, and any of it can be edited or made up. A real record is one you can recompute yourself without trusting the seller, with losing days shown as clearly as winning ones.

What it looks like: Screenshots of green balances, win-rate claims, backtest charts, testimonials from people you cannot find, and a "verified" badge that is only an image. The seller controls all of it, and any of it can be edited or made up.

How to check: Ask one question: can I recompute this myself? A real record is published in a form you can test without trusting the seller, shows losing days as clearly as winning ones, and is stamped in a way that cannot be quietly rewritten later. Our explainer on verifiable results shows how. If the answer is "trust our dashboard", you have no record, only a story.

Red flag 3: Why is a forced deposit with the vendor or its own broker a red flag?

Your money should stay in a brokerage or exchange account in your own name, with a login only you control. A product that tells you to send funds to its wallet, or to open an account with its partner broker, puts your money on a platform you have never heard of.

What it looks like: "Send funds to our wallet." "Open an account with our partner broker to activate the software." Your money lands on a platform you have never heard of.

How to check: Can you connect the brokerage or exchange account you already have, in your own name, with a login only you control? Look up any broker the vendor names yourself, never through the vendor's link. Then check the permission level of the key you are asked to create. A key that can trade is normal. A key that can withdraw is a way out of your account. Some legitimate services act as custodians, but they are named, registered firms and say so plainly.

Red flag 4: Is a celebrity or influencer endorsement proof that trading software works?

No. An endorsement cannot show you a record, and a famous face, an "as seen on" logo strip or a creator paid per signup is advertising, labeled or not. If the endorsement is the strongest thing on the page, the page has nothing else.

What it looks like: A famous face in the ad, an "as seen on" logo strip, or a creator paid per signup telling you it changed their life. Deepfake video of public figures is now a common lure.

How to check: Go to the person's official channels yourself and see whether they mention the product at all. Treat paid promotion as advertising, labeled or not.

Red flag 5: Why is having no clear way to withdraw or switch it off a red flag?

Control is the whole point. If you cannot find, in writing, the exact steps to stop the software and take your money out, you are not in charge. Warning signs are withdrawal fees that appear only when you leave, an "unlock deposit" or "tax", and support that goes quiet after you pay.

What it looks like: Withdrawal fees that appear only when you try to leave. A "tax" or "unlock deposit" before you can take money out. Support that answers fast before you pay and slowly after. No stop button, only a balance that keeps growing on a screen.

How to check: Before depositing anything, find the exact steps to stop the software and to take your money out, in writing. If you can revoke access from inside your own exchange or brokerage account, without asking the vendor, you are in charge. Test the exit with a demo or a small amount first.

Red flag 6: Why are pressure, countdown timers and hidden terms a red flag?

Pressure rushes you past the terms. A timer that resets when you reload, "only 3 spots left" with no basis, or "deposit in the next hour" is theatre. A limited offer is not automatically a trick: a real one states the price, the limit and the end condition clearly, and does not move when you refresh.

What it looks like: A timer that resets when you reload. "Only 3 spots left" with no basis. "Deposit in the next hour or lose the offer." Terms buried in small print.

How to check: Open the page in a private window and reload it. If the timer starts over, it is theatre. Find the full price and the billing terms in plain text before you enter a card. A limited offer is not automatically a trick. A real one states the price, the limit and the end condition clearly, and does not move when you refresh. Pressure that rushes you past the terms is the signal.

Red flag 7: Why is an anonymous company with no registration or named people a red flag?

You cannot hold an anonymous company to anything. A legitimate vendor has a named legal entity, an address, a named team and a founder you can find outside its own site. A domain registered a few weeks ago and a Telegram handle as the only contact are signs of the opposite.

What it looks like: No legal entity name, no address, no named team, a domain registered a few weeks ago, and a Telegram handle as the only contact.

How to check: Find the legal entity and search for it in the public business registry of the state or country it names. Confirm that the named founder exists and can be found outside the vendor's own site. A domain age lookup takes seconds. If the product handles money transmission in the US, FinCEN publishes a public search of registered Money Services Businesses. Registration is a floor, not an endorsement, but an entity that cannot show even that has answered you.

What does the seven-point checklist look like in one table?

Legitimate software describes what it does, states no earnings, keeps your money in your own account, publishes a record you can recompute and states its terms plainly. A scam leans on promised returns, screenshots, deposits to the vendor, celebrity proof, hidden exits, pressure and anonymity. The table sets each check side by side.

How can you verify AutoCoin?

Run the same seven checks on AutoCoin and verify each one yourself: no stated earnings, a public record you can recompute, trade-only access in your own account, an exit you control, plain terms and a named Florida company. Do not take our word for it.

  • Returns: we describe what the software does. We do not state earnings. The standard risk disclaimer sits on every page.
  • Record: each day's results are hashed, signed, chained to the previous day and anchored on the Base blockchain. You can recompute them in your own browser at autocoin.ai/live/verify, and watch the live view at /live.
  • Your account: stocks run in your own brokerage account through Alpaca, Tradier, eToro or Public.com, including Roth IRA and Traditional IRA accounts on Public.com. Crypto runs on 10+ exchanges, such as Binance, Bybit, Kraken and OKX, in your own exchange account. Forex software is free for traders outside the US, in your own broker account. Gold is live, and more commodities are coming. Assets stay in your account in your name.
  • Access: the keys are trade-only. The software can place orders but can never withdraw or move funds.
  • Exit: you can revoke the key or switch the software off at any time. A demo mode with simulated trading lets you see it work before you connect real capital.
  • Terms: the offer is in plain text and nothing is hidden. Monthly starts free for 7 days, then $149 a month, with access straight away, and every payment counts toward Lifetime. Lifetime is $999 once, paid today. Both are on the checkout page.
  • Company: AutoCoin LLC is a Florida LLC based in St. Petersburg, Florida, USA, and a FinCEN-registered Money Services Business. The founder and CEO is James Warwick, who has his own page at /author.

FinCEN registration is not an endorsement of any product, and we do not present it as one. It is one fact you can verify yourself, next to the others. Our is AutoCoin legit page lists each check with where to find it, is AI trading safe covers the wider questions, and the Super-intelligent trading software guide compares the whole category. Frequently asked questions

Is automated trading software legit?

Some are, and many are not. The label does not decide it. Legitimate software runs in your own account, uses trade-only access, states no earnings and publishes a record you can verify. A scam usually fails several of those tests at once. Judge the structure, not the marketing.

How can I check a trading software's track record?

Ask whether you can recompute it yourself. A credible record is public, includes losing days, and is stamped so it cannot be rewritten later. Screenshots, win-rate claims and backtest charts are not records, because the seller controls them. On AutoCoin, the signed daily record can be recomputed in your browser at /live/verify.

What should I never share with trading software?

Never share your seed phrase, your account passwords, your two-factor codes, or any API key that allows withdrawals. Legitimate software needs only a trade-only key, which can place orders but cannot move funds out. Anyone asking for more is asking for access to your money.

What if I already paid a trading software scam?

Stop sending money at once, and ignore anyone offering to recover it for a fee, since that is a second scam. Revoke any API keys you created, move your funds to a fresh account, and call your bank or card issuer quickly about reversing the payment. Keep every message and receipt, and report it to your national fraud authority.

Does FinCEN registration mean a trading tool is safe?

No. Registration shows that a business has declared itself to the US government as a Money Services Business. It is a useful fact that a scam often cannot show, but it is not an approval of any product or its results. Treat it as one check among seven, never as a substitute for the others.

Trading involves risk, including loss of capital. Past results do not guarantee future results. This article is educational and is not financial advice.

The math

Is it worth it at your balance?

$149/month is a flat software fee, not a percent of your assets, so what it costs depends on the capital it runs. Here is the arithmetic, stated plainly. One fee covers stocks, crypto and gold together, and the forex software is free.

Account balance$149/month equalsLifetime, $999 once, equals
$10,0001.5% per month10% once, then nothing
$25,0000.6% per month4% once, then nothing
$50,0000.3% per month2% once, then nothing
$100,0000.15% per month1% once, then nothing

Lifetime is a one-time $999 payment for lifetime access. It removes the recurring fee entirely, which ends the fee-drag question: one outlay, once, instead of a subscription forever. AutoCoin is priced as a professional tool for real capital: the flat fee gets proportionally cheaper as your balance grows, while percent-of-assets fees grow with it.

And you can watch the strategies work before connecting anything: every strategy also runs in free Demo mode with nothing connected. Start your free week today and every payment counts toward Lifetime. See the public record.

Every number we publish sits next to the controls that bound it: regime detection that moves strategies to cash in hostile markets, trade-only keys on your own venue, and pause or switch off at any time. Your account, your limits, your off switch.
